A distressing complaint of rape and harassment has surfaced at Jadavpur University, as a third-year student recently submitted a written complaint to the department head.

The student accuses two fellow students of raping her in separate incidents and alleges another student of abetting the assaults. Additionally, the complaint includes accusations against at least 15 students for offenses such as physical and mental harassment, ragging, abetting ragging, and inciting suicide.According to the student, one of the incidents occurred in November 2022, involving a student from another department who allegedly raped her after consuming alcohol. Another accused student, with whom she previously had a relationship, is accused of raping her, physically assaulting her, and instigating suicide during their relationship.

The complaint also mentions allegations of mental torture and ragging against two senior students in her department, affecting her academic performance. Jadavpur University officials have assured that the complaints will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions will be taken.
